Happy Halloween from the Someday Society!

In this video, I’m decorating a mini Halloween junk journal using a greeting card, vintage-inspired papers, stickers, washi tape, stamps, and my fountain pen. This little journal is perfect for carrying along on autumn adventures and capturing seasonal thoughts, memories, and inspiration.

For this journal page, I’m exploring one of the deeper meanings of Halloween: remembering and honoring those who came before us. With candle imagery, owls, stars, and vintage details, I create a memorial page to celebrate our connections to the past, honor departed loved ones, and preserve the stories that might otherwise be forgotten.

I also share a sneak peek at the Halloween Journaling Lab kit! We’ll be using Halloween-themed stickers, decorative papers, washi tape, ribbons, a Halloween card, and other fun supplies to create our own mini Halloween journals. The kits will include a lab report with journaling prompts and reflection activities to guide our creative experiments.

A Complete Avalanche of Halloween Ephemera | Getting Ready for October Journaling

It’s time to get ready for Halloween journaling, and apparently, I have been collecting Halloween ephemera for years.

In this video, I’m finally attempting to organize my enormous collection of Halloween and October-inspired stickers, washi tape, paper ephemera, notepads, vintage-inspired pieces, and all the other spooky-season treasures I’ve accumulated. Everything is going into one little Hello Kitty basket so that when inspiration strikes, all of my Halloween journaling supplies are within reach.

I’m sharing some of my favorite finds from places like Starseed Homestead, Alley Crafts, Michaels, Sticky, In the Land of Elsewhere, craft shows, the Punk Rock Flea Market, and a few unexpected places — including last year’s McDonald’s Boo Buckets.

There’s cute Halloween, spooky Halloween, vintage Halloween, questionable Halloween, and at least one scary clown sticker that absolutely had to be covered up.

I’m also trying to embrace one of the biggest lessons I’ve learned from journaling: stop saving the good stuff. The beautiful sticker doesn’t need a perfect page. The weird sticker doesn’t need a special occasion. Use the things you love and make the page. When I look back at my journals, I love the imperfect pages just as much as the carefully planned ones.

So grab your Halloween journals, pull out your October supplies, and let’s get ready for a spooky season of creativity.

Today we’re making a Halloween junk journal using something you might not normally think of as a craft supply: a Halloween greeting card.

I picked up a stack of Halloween cards from Dollar General and decided to turn them into little handmade journals for October. Using leftover junk-journaling papers, envelopes, a little translucent paper, waxed thread, and some very well-loved bookbinding tools, I put together a journal with plenty of room for daily writing, notes, ephemera, and all the little things that make October fun.

This craft did not go exactly according to plan. There were crooked pages, a stubborn sewing needle, tangled thread, a rusty guillotine, and more than one moment when I wondered if I was ever going to finish these journals. But eventually, we got there.

And honestly, that’s part of the fun.

This isn’t about making a perfect journal. It’s about using what you have, experimenting, repurposing things, and making something that feels like your own. You don’t need a guillotine, a specialty punch, or expensive supplies to make one. Scissors, an awl or something sharp, some paper, clips, thread, and a Halloween card can get you started.

I also show you how I used the envelopes as pockets for ephemera and how I assembled and stitched the signatures into the card covers.

If you’re someone who likes Halloween, junk journaling, stationery, repurposing, or just making things without worrying too much about perfection, I hope you’ll give this a try.

I’m also putting together my Halloween-themed October Planner Zine, with weekly themes, Halloween planning pages, journal prompts, notes pages, and plenty of spooky details.

Then it’s time to build my October journaling kit! I’m putting together my Halloween journaling bag, coffin-shaped pen case, watercolor pencils, fountain pen, waterproof ink, glue, scissors, pens, highlighters, and all the little things I like to have nearby when I journal.

October is one of the few times of year when I really embrace COLOR, especially oranges, greens, blacks, and all those wonderfully spooky Halloween shades.

I’m also trying to solve one of my ongoing stationery problems: how do you organize all the stickers, paper ephemera, and supplies you’ve lovingly collected so that you can actually FIND them when you want to use them? If you have a great stationery organization system, I want to hear about it!

And, of course, there’s a little discussion about blue ink. I have feelings. Do you?
